Happy Days Nursery Makeover
As some of you may know we have been running our ‘Dream Nursery’ promo to find rooms and nurseries to make over. When we first started thinking about how we wanted to introduce and showcase the ‘Happy Days’ collection, the idea of doing a makeover was at the top of our list. Ultimately, we chose to makeover a room for baby boy Sam, whose Mom, Carolyn had submitted her space. The family's two older children had been sharing the room, but with baby Sam moving out of his parents room, he was ready for his own nursery!
The idea was that the new collection would be at the heart of the nursery design, and would be brought to the surface with complimentary pieces both new, and from the home. Because the ‘Happy Days’ collection is so fun and playful we wanted to bring some of that playfulness into the room with paint and pieces that would transition with Sam as he grew.
This was an existing built-in shelf that had a very industrial vibe. That wasn’t quite what we were looking for but we loved the design and openness and know that shelves are one of the most practical items you can have in a kids room.
1. Pehr Pom Pom Storage 2. Vintage Toy Car 3. Potted Plant 4. Baby Booties 5. Pehr Stripes Away Onesie 6. Pehr Lovey Blanket 7. Pehr Stripes Away Hooded Towels 8. Pehr Swaddles 9. Jellycats Pitterpat Lion 10. Pehr Rainbows Pom Pom Pint 11. Grimms Wood Tunnel 12. Bedtime Stories from the Home
So, to bring it to life, each of the shelving unit's five shelves were painted in a different Farrow & Ball color and the rods were painted white, along with the rest of the room:
We wanted the colors to be complimentary rather than match the print's palette exactly. We also chose colors that were playful enough for a nursery but sophisticated enough to grow up with Sam.
GALLERY WALLOur first step with any room makeover is to visit the family home so that we can see the space, pull inspiration, and get to know the family. When we first saw the room, Carolyn had a beautiful white and wood dresser from Ikea that we thought would work perfectly as a change table. From here, we envisioned a collage of artwork - both new and old - to hang as a showstopper gallery wall. When we first toured the room, there were two pieces of artwork that stood out: A beautiful print that was Carolyn's grandmother's and a drawing that her daughter Eleanor did, when she was pregnant with her first son, Ted. In order to modernize them to fit the space, we re-framed them with natural wood frames and fresh mats from Michael's. We paired these with the bright color and supple shape of Banquet's iconic Clementine print, and the custom designed "Sam I Am" pennant banner by Sawyer & the Owl.
With a couple added elements for texture and depth, we had the makings of a fun-loving gallery wall!

We needed to replace the existing bunkbeds with something that would work for Sam. We chose the IKEA Sniglar crib, that met the conditions that it would be simple to balance the rainbow shelves and ‘Happy Days’ bedding and storage. We wanted to help Sam feel cozy and secure in his new crib, so we outfitted it with our brand new 100% organic cotton crib sheet.
Under the crib we added the Sea Solid Stripe Rug which we layered over the existing wall-to-wall carpet. It freshened up the space and provided some additional color and texture to the off-white carpet. We also added our ‘Dream-A-Little Dream’ mobile which helped to the balanced aesthetic without overwhelming the space.
Happy slumbers dear Sam! We hope you enjoy this makeover as much as we have!
